Changes to Server
Updated: 19 June 2009
All website CMS's have been moved from Notes1-Med/UNSWMED to
NotesCMS1-med/UNSWMED
The switch over will occur on 24 June 2009. To access your website CMS you will need to update the link to your database so it points to the new server. Adding this is the same as adding any new database to your Notes workspace. (
Please Note: Staff in Hospital locations are currently unable to access this server. These CMS's will stay on Notes1-Med until this is resolved. The exceptions to this are people located in the Black Dog Institute and POW Head of School's Unit.
First, try the easy way:
1. Click File, then Database then Open.
2. Change the Server to NotesCMS1-med/UNSWMED (choose 'Other' (or 'Application' if using Notes V8) if it doesn't appear in the list. From the next list choose NotesCMS1-med/UNSWMED)
3. Find your database in the list, click it and then click Open.
This should open your website and change it so the next times it's opened it uses the new server.
If NotesCMS1-med doesn't appear in step two, follow these steps:
1. Click File, Preferences, then User Preferences.
2. Click Ports, then Trace.
3. Under Destination type: medpwdo005.ad.unsw.edu.au
4. Click Trace, wait till the text finishes and check that this line appears near the end: Connected to server NotesCMS1-med/UNSWMED
5. Try the Easy Way again.
(
Note: Other databases on Notes1-Med/UNSWMED will also change and can be updated/added in the same way.)
Medicine IIS Web Server
Updated: 9 July 2009
Medicine IIS web server is now located within central IT (these are
special purpose sites -
not to be confused with our Lotus Notes school/centre websites).
To access one of these sites you will need
- permission from the owner (presumably they have asked you to do some work on the site)
- zPass (set this up at - https://idm.unsw.edu.au, note: miscellaneous users need to apply for a z number and zPass)
- your z number (this will usually be your Staff ID with a 'z' prefix) needs to be added to the server before you can login. The website owner should place a service call to get your ID added ( or 9385 1333)
Once you have been added to the server you will need to follow the instructions below to access and update the website
Installing and connecting an FTP Client
To connect to the Medicine IIS web server you will need to use an FTP Client. There are many of these around, this demonstration is with
FileZilla, a free, Open Source client available from
http://filezilla-project.org/
After downloading and
installing your FTP client you will need to start a new connection. In FileZilla you can use the
Quickconnect bar near the top of the program. You will need the following details:
Host/Server name: web.med.unsw.edu.au
username: ADUNSW\z1234567 (where 1234567 should be your 'z' number)
password: Your zPass password (available from
https://idm.unsw.edu.au)
port: 21 (the default)
Clicking Quickconnect in FileZilla should show some text in the box below, hopefully resulting in a successful connection. It should have the line:
Response: 230 User z1234567@adunsw logged in.
If the connection fails, log a servicedesk call with the text in the box so we can figure out the issue. Make sure you can log in to the
https://idm.unsw.edu.au page with your zPass.
Once you are connected you should see a list of directories in the "Remote Site" view on the middle-right. Double-click the directory you are editing. You can drag and drop files into this panel, or browse on the right for files and then double click them to transfer to the folder in the right panel.
If you need to
access the files
outside the UNSW network you may be able to use a
VPN connection to allow you to do the above. We will need to install VPN software on your PC for this,
please contact the service desk to get this installed. (Service Desk: email: or phone: 9385 1333)
